Project Description:
This project involved the refurbishment and redevelopment of six historic, protected structures at Grangegorman, totalling 8,000m2, from their former hospital use into new educational facilities for Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT).
As part of an Architect-led Integrated Design Team, Ethos Engineering were successfully appointed as the Mechanical and Electrical Design Engineers responsible for the M&E services development of the existing buildings to bring the existing six buildings into the 21st Century. As part of this project, we were challenged with providing new state-of-the-art services in protected and listed buildings.
The buildings are now home to over 1,000 DIT students of Creative Arts, Social Science and Photography, as well as to DIT Campus Planning, Student Services, including restaurant, library, student union, Research, the Office of the President, the DIT Foundation and the Grangegorman Development Agency (GDA).
Ethos Input:
Ethos' input to this project included the complete strip out and refurbishment of the following systems:
• Low-Pressure Hot Water Heating Installation.
• Domestic Water Services and Drainage.
• New Process Ventilation and Control.
• Lighting and Emergency Lighting, including specialist task lighting for Photography.
• General Services and ICT.
• Lift Refurbishment.
• External Infrastructure.
