Project Description

This project involved the construction of three new 9.6MW Colos in addition to the existing two Colos on site in Malmö, Sweden.

The construction of the 3 Colos included 4 CELLS in each Colo along with associated electrical rooms, battery rooms, and mechanical galleries, as well as external yards with online and standby transformers. This project adopted a no-generator design, with no generators installed in the designated generator yard. Modular MV electrical rooms were strategically positioned in the external generator yards to optimise power distribution.

The design also included full MV/LV/ELV electrical underground services, developed in collaboration with other design team disciplines. These services were meticulously coordinated and designed using BIM and Revit, ensuring precision and integration across the project.

Ethos Input

As part of the delivery of the project, Ethos were tasked with developing the design for both Electrical and Mechanical services through BIM and REVIT. This was developed to LOD300, which was then issued as part of the construction pack to the contractors on site. Included in the design was a full suite of Electrical and Mechanical services.

Ethos followed the Safety in Design (SID) process to ensure the best-in-class safety program was developed by identifying high-risk activities which were compliant with local legislation. This allowed for planning and mitigation strategies to be developed. Ethos also provided Preliminary and Final Hazard Analysis for the project.

Ethos assisted in the LEED development of the scorecard for the project to receive LEED Gold Certification. Once the project was issued for construction, Ethos had local partners on site full-time basis to liaise and support with the site team. Ethos also had an assigned in-house Engineer who led this project from initial design to design completion. The Engineer also attended site visits on a monthly basis for site team support.

Unique / Key Features

The cooling was achieved by an all-air cooling system, utilising air side economisers (outside air) to cool the server and electrical spaces. Battery rooms have additional DX cooling provided.

The project also involved infrastructure pre-positioning for a future no-generator design. Pre-positioning included above and below ground infrastructure, space planning for future MV switchgear & MV/LV transformers, etc.
