Sports, Science Arts and Technology Building (SATS)

Clongowes Wood College, Clane, Co. Kildare

The development encompasses a new Energy Centre (600m²), Sports Centre (4200m²) Science Arts and Technology Building (SATS) (1300m²), with interconnection to existing building and associated external works on campus. The development shall allow the college to take a more holistic approach to energy generation and usage with full control centralised in one location.

The energy building shall house Biomass Boilers, CHP Unit, Gas Fired Boilers and Electrical Substation / Switchroom. From this energy centre a campus wide district heating system is designed to serve the new sports centre and SATS Building, whilst also connecting into the existing campus buildings. This shall allow the client to take advantage of the benefits of biomass fuel usage and on site generation of electricity.

The sports centre contains a swimming pool, changing areas, sports hall and office / training facilities. The SATS building houses science labs, classrooms and technology room. The building design promoted the use of natural ventilation where possible, and utilisation of rainwater harvesting.
