Clongowes Wood College redeveloped an existing multifunction hall into an academic resource centre which officially opened as the James Joyce Library in early 2009 in honour of their illustrious past pupil.

Given that the project involved the refurbishment of a listed structure, the associated conservation issues presented a number of challenges in designing the mechanical and electrical services installations.

Ethos Engineering were involved from concept stage through to handover and developed creative solutions to provide a pleasant, comfortable working environment.

One of the main features of the M&E installation is the underfloor displacement ventilation system which provides heating and fresh air to the space from beneath the raised floor. Given the sensitive nature of the ceiling, services were minimised to prevent any damage. The main circulation lighting was provided using wall mounted indirect fittings and wireless fire alarm technology was used to minimise wiring within the ceiling.
